January 6, 2017 is the day I upgraded from a NY Learner’s Permit to a Florida Driver’s License!

This was not my first time taking a driving test however, I did so two times in 2014 and failed. That left me rather demotivated where my efforts were concerned.

It was much easier to give up my driving pursuits in NYC due to the ubiquitous modes of public transport available. But, last summer I moved to Florida and was hit with the reality that this is no New York.

In Florida you have to drive everywhere as a public transport system hardly exists, and the little piece that does… is complete shit. Waiting 3 hours for a bus? Forget it!

Hence, I became a baby in a car seat, having to be ferried everywhere by friends and family, or simply just keeping my ass at home being restricted in movement.

After a few months of hesitation, mental distractions and lack of opportunity, I decided to book my driving test for January 6, 2017… and passed with flying colors. I nailed everything on the test, and only got marked down for parking too much to the left between the 4 cones during a straight-in parking maneuver.

Its not that I could not drive though, I even drove myself and close friend to the testing facility (Department of Motor Vehicles) office. But, we know how we humans get a tid-bit nervous when under pressure or being monitored by some imposed authority.

Surprisingly, I was fairly calm, level headed and positive despite only getting 4 hours of sleep the night before. I knew within myself that I would pass, as I did not intend to take the test a fourth time. I drove confidently, performed the maneuvers to the best of my ability and finished the exam with an almost perfect score.

Partly because, I eliminated any doubt that I could not do it!

After having a groggy night, my friend even asked if I was sure I wanted to proceed taking the test. But, I felt like today was the day, and I passed.

Doubt/negativity is a barrier in almost everything we do. Making us fearful, nervous, distracted and setting up scenarios for failure. However, when you believe you can, nothing can change the outcome you want manifested. As cliché as it sounds, it is true.

Believe in yourself, with no doubt, and you will see how much you achieve!
