The weekends are for rest and play, or so they say.
In almost every culture around the world the weekend symbolizes a break from your 9-5, a sabbatical of sorts from everyday life (that being Monday – Friday). However, for the Entrepreneur or the creator inside you, this is not the case. Your mind is going full blast whether it is a Tuesday or Saturday. We have been drawn into a culture created by society that makes us think we need to relax on the weekends. There is some benefit to this, as we all need to rest and take a break from our stressful work lives. But, not everyone longs for solitude and 12 hour naps. So for those who don’t, here are 4 ways to treat your weekend like a normal weekday.
Wake up at 6am
I do not care what time you went to bed the night before or if you were out partying until 5am. If you want to take this seriously, you must rise early to get the most out of the day. I say 6am but 7 works also. No snoozing of the alarm, no “just 5 more minutes,” get the hell up and start moving. Remember you are treating this like a weekday, you have to act responsibly, respect time and be held accountable for your actions. No slouching.
Take a shit not long after to clear your mind
On a serious note, taking a shit really clears your mind. Have you been urgently in need of using the toilet, and realize how distracting it is? Well, I have, and I can attest to the peace of mind it brings when you are done. Using the toilet first thing in the morning (if the urge is present) helps relax the body and allows you to focus on other matters. There is no need to let shit be hanging over your head.
Run around the block a few times (pretend its your journey to work)
On a typical weekday you would fire up some breakfast – hopefully, and jump in the car, or on a bus/train to go to work. However, those modes are out of the conversation, as your home will be your office for the weekend. So fire up some breakfast (you can do this after exercise if that works), eat up, digest and then hit the road with the two feet God gave you. A run or brisk walk will clear the mind much like shitting does, and open up your lungs and body. Now, if your normal commute to work is 20 miles, I could say run the same length, but that would be downright cruel, wouldn’t it?
Make your bed your office/studio
If you have a husband, wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, baby or dog that sleeps with you until late into the day on weekends, kick their asses out of the bed. This will be your office for the day. No desk, you do that five days of the week. You need something soft, mushy, comfortable, and a bed does the trick. They can go to another room or find a couch, but you need that bed, no questions asked. Get some warm blankets, some healthy snacks, and a dildo or roll of paper towel (you might want to let off some steam in between writing those reports ;)). Do not act like you have never done it or thought of doing it at the work, at least now you have some privacy. After all this, you will get comfortable, very comfortable as a matter of fact, but if you dare bat an eyelid, we will have it out. You have to struggle to stay up at the office even after a Mount Everest lunch, so you better struggle to stay up now.
Saturdays and Sundays are only weekends because you allow them to. You have followed the rules created by man, you let them dictate your life. But, if you are an Entrepreneur or a creative the weekend should be just another day to fulfill your passion.
